Journey by train or plane to the Galloway Forest Park

 

 

Is the long drive from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland?

There are many exiting and interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South.

 

Option 1 - by Rail

 

There are regular services operated by Virgin, First Scotrail from London Euston, Bristol, and the West Country calling at intermediate stations via, Birmingham, Leeds, Crewe to Glasgow, Carlisle and Dumfries are served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services and direct connecting trains run from Glasgow to Barrhill (just 2 miles) from the cottage.

Option 2 - by Plane

 

 

Prestwick International Airport is less than 1 hours drive from the cottage and takes regular service flights from the following....Ryanair Tel 0871 246 0000 operate to/from Bournemouth, Frankfurt, London Stansted, Dublin, Paris and Stockholm. British Midland Tel 0870 607 0555 operate to / from Cardiff.

Car Hire and the roads in Dumfries and Galloway

 

The roads are a pleasure to drive on, wide and well maintained with fantastic views. The cottage is situated 2 miles from Barrhill. If approaching from the South on the A75 from Carlisle take the A714 North at Newton Stewart to Barrhill.

From Glasgow and the North the main A77 trunk road to Stranraer is the ideal easy route as far as Girvan. Then the A714 South towards Newton Stewart. Barrhill and the Cottage are approx 15 minutes drive from Girvan.
