Escape to the West Coast of Scotland

Come and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a holiday amid superb scenery on Scotland's magnificent West Coast. Breathe in the fresh sea air, explore the stunning countryside and allow the charm of this unique location to inspire you and restore your energy. The small crofting 'township' of Big Sand has an enviable coastal location with panoramic views. A fine stretch of safe, sandy beach is within 10 minutes walk from the cottages. Heather Croft apartments are situated on a five acre croft with immediate access to open countryside and local archaeological trails. The cottages have their own garden areas adjacent to private entrances. A Calor gas BBQ, table and chairs are provided for your convenience. Those with an interest in animals can meet our select rare breed group - Jocky the Clydesdale and a goat herd.

The village of Gairloch, three miles away, has additional attractions and activities. The award winning Creel Restaurant and the Old Inn are highly recommended for eating out. There is river and loch angling, sea fishing, whale watching trips and other excursions with local wildlife experts. Gairloch has an idyllic shoreline, golf course and pony trekking in the wooded Flowerdale. Instruction in mountaineering, rock climbing, sailing and canoeing are available for the intrepid. Local cycle hire, slipways and Inverewe Gardens may add further dimensions to your holiday.

Whatever the weather a warm west coast welcome awaits you

Wester Ross and Ross-shire

Big Sand sits by the tranquil waters of Gair Loch 3 miles West of Gairloch where the Mackenzies have lived, fished and farmed since the 15th Century. Warm Gulf Stream waters make for a temperate climate which attracts plentiful wildlife, including seabirds, otters and whales which feast on the seasonal bounty of the sea. The loch is circled to the south by the dramatic Torridon Mountains including the 3300ft high Beinn Alligin and Slioch (3215ft), one of Scotland's finest mountains. Inverness is the nearest city to Big Sand and Gairloch and is approximately 90 minutes drive away. The village of Badachro on the shores of Gair Loch has a fine pub with a restaurant in which to dine and relax after a day in the hills.

However you want to relax and unwind, Big Sand has so much to offer.

Riches beyond your Wildest dreams

A picture tells a thousand words. Truth is, life is rich where the photographs are best. Ullapool and Wester Ross offer riches beyond your wildest dreams. Ullapool is a great centre for hill walking and it's an ideal base for touring the beautiful landscape of the north-west Highlands........we don’t know where to start...

Should we tell you about the more famous attractions of Wester Ross such as Inverewe gardens, and the Victorian Spa town of Strathpeffer, or about the scenery, the mountains, or maybe the golf-course or

the gardens. What about the traditional music, or the fishing, and the walking? Have you ever seen the sunsets, the wildlife, the birds, the history, genealogy. Or perhaps you prefer the sea, the sailing, a kayak trip, the beaches? Maybe you fancy the swimming pool, the sports centre, the cycling? Have you tasted the prawns, the mussels, the lobsters? Are you for a wee dram…?

Wester Ross and Ross-shire offer some of the finest scenery in Scotland
